Fall Inspiration

Outfit inspired by fall. I have an obsession with tartan plaid.  True (side) story: I combed the aisles of Target & every other wall-paper-selling-store this past Christmas looking for tartan plaid wrapping paper.  Couldn't find it anywhere.  My then-boyfriend thought I was insane.  We broke up shortly after, obviously one reason being he didn't share my love for tartan plaid. Wrapping paper is important people. Back to the outfit..tartan plaid mini with a sleek turtleneck. Jazz it up however you'd like, but do not forget two things: winged eyeliner & killer booties.

P.S. Y'all better email/call/tweet/text/stalk me if you find tartan plaid wrapping paper this winter....

Blog Crush: Jessie + The Concrete Catwalk

I had the pleasure of meeting one of the sweetest bloggers ever at Blogger's Night Out, Jessie from The Concrete Catwalk.  She is a household name in Kansas City & is even more stunning in person (you'll develop a major crush just from looking at her pictures!) Recently I did a quick interview with Jessie that I wanted to share, don't forget to head on over to The Concrete Catwalk & subscribe to her feed!

When hosting a gathering (of any size) what is your go to recipe?
Beer battered fish tacos with homemade roasted tomatillo salsa!

Three products you cannot live without?
Assuming we're talking beauty products... Lancome Definicils mascara, Healthy Hooves Horse Hoof Lacquer (topcoat for my fingernails!) & Moroccan Oil for my dry hair

New edition to your playlist
Lana del Rey... her music is incredible & her style is enviable!

Most memorable quote
Faith does not panic, God is near. - My Meema :)

What's on your bedside table?
Burt's Bees Coconut Foot Repair, my cell phone charger & my Keel's journal

Favorite Fall 2011 collection:
For this fall, I LOVED Erin Fetherston, Jenni Kayne, Jill Stuart & Suno

Where do you go to relax & escape? What do you take with you?
In town? My fave thrift store! I generally leave my phone in the car (unless I need to be "working") & just zone out while I scour the racks.  It's so inspiring & relaxing to me! A close second would be the health club we belong to. Out of town? My parents' house in Scottsdale, AZ. I totally let my parents spoil me when I'm there, & spending time with my immediate & extended family is a definite recharge.

Best & worst part of your 20's:
Oh man...not wanting to get too intense here (I've definitely had some rough patches), I'd say my worse two parts were the death of both our puppy & our kitten (separate instances). The best parts? Marrying my husband Gerard (going on 5 years!) & leaving the corporate world to start my own business! SO rewarding & both of those were the best life decisions I've made this far. :)

The NYC Highline

One must-see in NYC is the Highline, the city's "Park In The Sky". The mile & a half long elevated park (it was a former rail structure) was opened to the public in full in June of this year. At any given time, the park is swarmed with camera-toting tourists, artists sketching, children chasing butterflies, & couples on a leisurely stroll.  Nothing I write could adequately capture the unique design elements & architecture of the Highline, so I encourage you to check it out during your next visit to NYC!

Fall Must-Haves

These items are holding a permanent place on my Fall wishlist. I already have a few ideas brewing...The Vince sweater I'm planning a homecoming ensemble around. Aviators / skinny jeans / cognac boots. Alexander Wang silk blouse + black ankle trousers & killer pumps. Madewell cropped trench + ankle boots.  DvF turtleneck poncho, that color is to die for.  Old navy vest (can you believe it?! & so inexpensive!) + boyfriend jeans. ASOS dress, herringbone tights & riding boots.

Fashionable Wang Family

This was too cute not to post. The littlest fashionista at NYFW, Alexander Wang's niece backstage. She gives Rachel Zoe's baby Skylar a run for his money, & leaves Suri in the dust. Major fan.

Litas + Cambridge Satchels

Two items all over NYFW: Jeffery Campbell Litas & neon Cambridge Satchels.  Personally, I'll need some time to warm up to Jeffery Campbell's Lita - neon bags by the Cambridge Satchel Co on the otherhand, no time needed at all. Sign me up.

Drew Barrymore For Neiman Marcus

Never one to be a huge fan of Drew Barrymore, (something about the black lipstick she wore in her teens turned me off) I was challenged in my opinions of her when I opened Vanity Fair & saw her ad campaign for Neiman Marcus.  This girl, worked.the.camera.  Is this the same girl that starred in E.T. & Along Came Polly? Hardly. I think I would die, or sell my soul (at minimum) for the emerald Emilio Pucci dress.

Wild Hair

Thoughts on the unconventional hair colors? I do believe that is lavender - grey ombre, which obviously I love.

Girl Crush(es): MK & Ashley Olsen

Weird? Sure. Eccentric? Spot on. Undeniably fashion forward? Absolutely.  The Olsen twins are NYC's version of a unicorn...well, two unicorns.  We know they are out there, rarely coming out of their hiding, & always dressed to kill.  I would die to go shopping with one + or both for a day.  Just one day.

A day & cause near & dear to my heart still draws tears to my eyes.  I, like many Americans remember where I was, who I was with, & the initial thoughts racing through my mind as I heard the devastating news.  I was rushed to the principal's office by my history teacher to call home. The news had not yet released what airlines were overtaken by the terrorists.  My parents worked for USAirways.  I remember repeatedly praying for my Mom who was at work, & the many many people frantically trying to get out of harm's way. I recall vividly sitting in the school office to go home early, my father fearing myself or my sister would see images on the news & fear the fate of my mother. Images ingrained in my mind for a lifetime.  I have the utmost respect for the man who navigated our country through the most difficult & challenging time, when many look back & criticize him.  I will forever view the NYPD & FDNY as unsung heros. To those aboard Flight 93, we will never fail to remember just how courageous your actions were. To the men & women who willingly put themselves in harm's way to defend our freedom, this nation will be forever indebted to you.  A photo taken by my great-grandfather of the New York skyline permanently resides on my bureau & reminds me to remember & never forget. On this day, please say a prayer for the lives lost, the families effected, the servicemen & women still fighting, & that our children never endure a tragedy as devastating as this.  I urge you to give back, even in the smallest of ways.  If you would like to join in on the cause & discover more was to give back please visit facebook.com/911day or redcross.org/donate.

Primary Colors

Tis the season to add some color into your wardrobe. Classic pants in a bold color deliver a modern twist, while a green pointy wedge peeping out from underneath a hemline can add just the right amount of surprise.

Date Night

I love this outfit for a date night, with just the right amount of dazzle.

All About The Draping

Draping can elongate a woman's body, hide troublesome areas, create shape in otherwise boxy areas, & add a little detail to an otherwise simple look. I used to feel the same way about rouching, but rouching seems to have taken over the sides of every article of clothing. I want more draping in my life ...or closet.

1. Paige Draped Wrap Skirt 2. Wrap Effect Silk Georgette Jumpsuit 3. Alexander Wang Wrap Sweater Dress

I wish I could express my delight when I found the silk georgette jumpsuit (middle).  I don't think one can ever have too many rompers & jumpsuits.  Because I can't help myself, I have to post one more look for this jumpsuit.  Perfect for fall & even on the chilliest evening - a blazer would look amazing over this.

Rainy Style

Time to get cozy in the rainy season again.  I've always wondered if Seattle residents have the best rain-appropriate wardrobes...or if New Englander's give them a run for their money with the treacherous winters?  Cheers to stylish rain boots, trenches, & looking good in the most humid of climates!

Must haves (in my personal northeastern-er opinion) Hunter equestrian-style rain boots (love), a classic trencha bubble umbrella, & just the right amount of leopard to peep through.

Iomoi

Whether a gift for the recent college grad entering the corporate world, or a girlfriend who likes to remain organized - Iomoi has something for everyone. On trend with monogramming, Iomoi has a plethora of desk accessories, gifts for the home, & personalized totes suitable for a range of tastes.  This is one of those sites I go to when I have to get a gift for the "person who has everything" (you know you have one in your life).    Bridal shower gift, housewarming present, Christmas present for your boss...you catch my drift.  I am seriously obsessed with their personalized lucite trays & stationary.  How amazing are these products?!

Cape Style

No, this post is not about Cape Cod in all of it's preppy gloriousness, but rather on the undeniable return of the cape & poncho for Fall.  Warm, cozy, & best of all - suited for skinny jeans & riding boots.  I love the chunky knits & would totally wear any of these on a November day strolling the streets of Portsmouth, NH (plus you all know I'd do anything to squeeze something ombre into my wardrobe)!

Anthropologie Poncho $128
Tahari Capelet $148
Olivaceous Dip Dye Poncho $49
Chain Knit Kimono $100
